“He who is silent is forgotten; he who does not advance falls back; he who stops is overwhelmed, outdistanced, and crushed; he who ceases to grow becomes smaller; he who gives up has lost. The condition of standing still is the beginning of the end.” – Henri Fr.
I have yet to meet anyone who does not wish to be successful. It’s easy to wish for something; all you have to do is sleep and dream about it. However, success is not about wishing—an illusion that what you desire is already true—but rather about working hard toward your goals. In this text, I would like to share the 4 D’s that can help you reach your purpose in life.
The first D is DESIRE, which means expressing a wish for something. Whatever you want to achieve in life, you must first have the desire for it; you need to cultivate a longing for that goal. Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s determination and commitment to the relentless pursuit of your goals that will enable you to attain the success you seek. If you truly want something, you must have the courage to do whatever it takes to obtain it.
The second D is DEDICATION, which refers to your commitment to achieving your goals. You need to dedicate yourself fully to the work at hand. For example, if I desire to be a singer, I must channel all my strength and devotion into the practice required to succeed. I will need to work hard and invest all my resources into committing to this task.
The third D is DETERMINATION, which signifies having a firmness of purpose. Determination helps you stand your ground despite the challenges you may face in achieving your objectives. Every accomplishment begins with the decision to try. Nothing can replace persistence. Talent is not enough; there are many unsuccessful people with talent. Genius is insufficient; unrewarded genius has become a proverb. Education alone won’t suffice; the world is filled with educated individuals who fail to thrive. Persistence and determination are the true keys to success. The slogan “press on” has always solved—and will continue to solve—the problems of humanity. Through rain or shine, you must be determined to push forward toward your goals; only you can be your own obstacle. Remember, success is not final, and failure is not fatal; what truly counts is the courage to continue.
The 4th D is DISCIPLINE, which serves as a bridge between your goals and accomplishments. To achieve your goals, no matter how small they may be, you must cultivate self-discipline. Discipline helps suppress your weaknesses and keeps you focused on what you want to achieve. Joyce Meyer, in her book “The Secret to True Success,” states, “When discipline is sown like a good seed, it yields a harvest of things that fulfill and satisfy—things that make us happy and bring peace and joy into our lives.”
I challenge you to pick one task from your lengthy to-do list (you know what I mean) and apply the 4 D’s: Desire, Dedication, Determination, and Discipline. Declare your dream aloud and make it known. Move forward with your accomplishments and stand firm in your efforts. Today, I pray for the spirit of excellence, wisdom, power, a sound mind, and peace in your life. Have fun!
