When you look at the Book of Genesis, specifically chapters 1 and 2, you see the account of God’s creation. These verses emphasise God’s purpose, creativity, and intent. They demonstrate that God is a God of purpose. He created the heavens, the earth, the seas, the dry land, and all living creatures, including humans, for specific reasons. Each creation shows the significance of God’s intent.In Genesis chapter 1, we encounter numerous statements like “And God said…” Following these statements, we see that what God said came to pass. This pattern reveals that God is deliberate in His speech; when He speaks, He expects results.

The scripture indicates that His words are powerful and purposeful. For instance, when God created light, it was intentional. He created night, dry land, plants, animals, and humans, each with its distinct purpose.This brings us to the question: What is purpose? The dictionary defines purpose as the original reason or intent for the existence of something. So, purpose is the reason for a thing’s being. When God created you, He did so with a purpose in mind; He had intent for your existence.Genesis 1:27-28 states that God created mankind in His own image, male and female. Verse 28 says that God blessed them and commanded them to be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it, giving them dominion over all living things.

This clearly indicates that God’s purpose for humanity is to have dominion over His creation.Now, let’s delve into the principles of purpose. I will discuss four principles:

1. God is a God of Purpose: This has been established through our examination of creation. Ephesians 2:10 states that we are God’s masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus for good works that He prepared in advance for us to do. This emphasises that we are intentionally created with a purpose.

2. Everything was Created With and For a Purpose: Everything God created serves a specific purpose. 1 Peter 2:9 says we are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a peculiar people. God created us for a purpose.

3. God has Good Plans for Us: Jeremiah 29:11 assures us that God’s plans for us are not plans of evil but plans to prosper us.

4. Purpose Informs Our Action: Understanding our purpose guides our choices and actions in life.In conclusion, as we reflect on these principles, we see that God’s purpose is fundamental to creation and to us as individuals.
