Today, someone needs to hear this message and be brought to repentance before our Lord. Have you defiled yourself before God, broken a vow or commandment, or turned away from His path? Were you once a fervent follower of the Lord, able to proudly say, “I was a friend of God,” but now can’t say the same? All your stories and testimonies of your relationship with Him belong to the past, not the present. You used to dwell in His presence, but that closeness has faded. Something in your life has distracted you from Him. Just one sin can cause you to fall from His grace; you may feel condemned, rejected, and trapped in your guilt.

Are you here this morning, feeling this way? You know deep down that you have vowed in your heart never to repeat certain actions, yet you have done them again. In fear, you might cry out, “Oh God, I have fallen so far. I have strayed from my Father. I have sinned against You and now don’t know how to return; my sins are before me, staring back at me. I can see the scars and stains that refuse to go away…”

Pray this prayer with me, according to Psalms51:

“Have mercy on me, O God, because of Your unfailing love.”

This morning, cry out for His mercy; only His mercy can set you free. His mercies endure forever, and they are new every morning because of His unfailing love. This day, let it be His mercy that you seek.

Because of your great compassion, please blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt.

Have you ever bought a new dress that holds great meaning for you, only to accidentally stain it with oil, food, stew, or ketchup? Oh my! I can imagine how upset you would be. You quickly rush to wash it, scrubbing and washing, yet the stain still remains. After multiple washes, that stubborn stain persists.

Now, let’s relate this scenario to our daily lives. Many of us have done things in the past—things we are ashamed of and regret. Even though we have asked for mercy and forgiveness, we still see stains in our lives that seem impossible to remove. No matter how much we try, those stains linger.

The Bible tells us that there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. It is God alone who can blot out the stain of our sins. So, this morning, let us ask Him to wash away our guilt and cleanse us from our sins.

Purify me from my sin, for I acknowledge my rebellion; it haunts me day and night.

Ask the Lord to cleanse you of every sin and to wash away all hidden faults—those that trouble you continually. You alone know the things you have done. When you sleep, they weigh on your mind; when you walk down the road, they fill your heart and bring tears to your eyes.

You have turned away from Him and strayed from His words, following your own path. This day, ask Him for purification. You recognize your sins; you know exactly what you did wrong, and you are aware of it all.

Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight. You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just.t5

Listen carefully: you have sinned against God. You have committed evil in His sight; you have rebelled against Him and defied His guidance. You have chosen to follow your own path instead of His. Deep down in your heart, you know that if the Lord were to pass judgment right now, everything He says would be just and right because of the actions you have taken. You remember when He specifically instructed you to do certain things, to avoid certain places, and not to take certain steps, but you chose to ignore Him.

For I was born a sinner— yes, from the moment my mother conceived me.6 But you desire honesty from the womb, teaching me wisdom even there.7 Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.8

We were all born a sinner but the Lord can purify us and wash us from every sin.

Oh, give me back my joy again; you have broken me— now let me rejoice.9 Don’t keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt.10

Oh my! This verse touched my heart. Lord, please restore my joy—the joy of my salvation; the joy that comes from within through serving You. Oh Lord, please do not keep focusing on my sins. I ask You today to take away the stain of my guilt—the guilt that troubles my heart, that is visibly etched within me, the stain, the stigma, the scar that constantly reminds me of my past mistakes. I hope you understand the deep meaning of this verse. Those things you have done in the past that haunt you daily are still evident when you look in the mirror; you can see the stain, the mark of your sin, all over your face.

Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.11 Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.12

After you have asked the Lord to purify you, now seek Him to create a clean heart within you—a clean slate. Once He has removed the stain of your guilt, your garment becomes spotless. Ask Him for a pure and holy heart, one that is free from every evil and sin; a heart that has been made whole.

Pray, “Lord, renew a loyal spirit within me, one that is faithful to Your word; a heart and spirit that will listen to You alone.” You don’t want to be banished from His presence. A person who leaves the presence of God is like a living dead; they are dead inside, lacking direction, life, and purpose.

Pray that the Lord does not cast you away from His presence. You and I have experienced being in God’s presence; you know how soothing and precious it is—a feeling that is difficult to explain, yet you desire to spend the rest of your life there with Him. Now, imagine the pain of being banished from that sacred place.

Please, Lord, do not take the Holy Spirit away from me—the Spirit of truth and the Spirit of life. “Oh, Lord,” cry out with all your heart, “do not take Your Holy Spirit away from me.”

Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.13 Then I will teach your ways to rebels, and they will return to you.14

Ask the Lord to restore the joy of your salvation and to make you truly willing from your heart to obey Him. Then, you can easily teach rebels His ways, and they will return to Him.

Forgive me for shedding blood, O God who saves; then I will joyfully sing of your forgiveness.15 Unseal my lips, O Lord, that my mouth may praise you.16

When I read this verse, I thought to myself, “I don’t belong in this category; I haven’t killed anyone, and I haven’t shed any blood, whether from the unborn or the living.” However, my heart began to open to a deeper understanding. Each time I fall short of the glory of God, whenever I sin against Him, it feels like driving nails through Jesus’ hands all over again. It’s as if I’m piercing Him with a sword or driving nails through His legs. Oh my God! I don’t want to do that; I don’t want to take Him back to the cross. He has already paid the price; He died for me. I shouldn’t drive the nails through His body again, and I shouldn’t shed His blood once more. I encourage you to ask the Lord for forgiveness for any shedding of blood you may have caused—whether you have killed, terminated, or drove the nails back into him. Seek His forgiveness.

You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one. You do not want a burnt offering.17 The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.18

He does not reject a broken and repentant spirit; he will hear your cry and forgive your sins. Be broken before him, humble yourself before him, and he will hear you.

Look with favor on Zion and help her; rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.19 Then you will be pleased with sacrifices offered in the right spirit— with burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings. Then bulls will again be sacrificed on your altar.

You know the walls you have torn down with your own hands out of negligence and ignorance—walls the Lord once built around you, which you have now destroyed. Today, ask Him to rebuild those walls: the wall of beauty, the walls of protection, the walls of guidance, and the walls that keep evil at bay.

Have you ever seen walls surrounding a building filled with beauty and splendor? You can stand there all day, captivated by their magnificence—the mighty walls that offer protection. You may have once pulled them down or destroyed them, but today, if you sincerely seek His mercy and forgiveness, He will restore them.

I pray that you will open your ears and heart to listen to His voice. May He give you a willing spirit to repent and seek His mercy. His love is unfailing; He will forgive you if you genuinely confess your sins. Speak the words of Psalm 51 into your life and pray with them today. Return back to your creator .

God bless.
