Hi there! I would like to share a short story with you; please read carefully with me.
The wife of a man from the company of prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant, my husband, is dead, and you know he revered the Lord. Now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.” Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have of value in your house?”
She answered, “Your servant has nothing at all in the house, except a little oil.” Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbours for empty jars. Don’t just ask for a few. Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each one is filled, put it to one side.”
She left him, shut the door behind her and her sons, and they brought the jars to her as she kept pouring. When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.” But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing.
She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”
— 2 Kings 4:1-7.
Did you notice that when the man of God asked her what she had, she replied, “Nothing”? Sometimes, we find ourselves in similar situations—when we feel we have “nothing” to help us in a tight spot. This woman, however, had a little oil, something she never really thought held much value. Yet, the man of God showed her how to use it, and through that, God blessed her.
Today, I want to ask you, “What do you have?” Are you facing financial difficulties? What resources are at your disposal? Many of us, like this woman, may feel we have nothing except…, perhaps a talent we’ve overlooked, a business idea we’ve ignored, a skill we underestimate, a degree we’ve set aside, or a trade we learned long ago. The list goes on.
Remember, God can use what you have to bless you. That very thing you look down upon—the thing you think lacks significant value or is too small to make a difference—could be your breakthrough. This woman had only a little oil, yet the man of God provided guidance on how to make the most of it.
What do you have? Don’t undervalue what is in your hands; invest in it and see what it can become.
God can multiply it beyond your imagination, taking you to places you never thought possible, and allowing you to stand among kings and princes instead of mere men. God will make it great.
Let’s consider a simple calculation: zero multiplied by ten equals zero. Now, what about one multiplied by ten? You get ten. If you have nothing and multiply it by ten, what do you get? But if you have even just one small gift and multiply it by ten, what do you have? I’m sure you understand the point. Don’t overlook what you possess; God can use it for your benefit. You have so much potential within you.
Ultimately, each and every one of us has God. We have the Mighty Man in battle to bless us, the Author and Finisher of our faith to guide us. We have a Provider, a God who does not need permission from anyone to bless us. We have a Redeemer who can restore us, a Provider who will meet all our needs, the All-Sufficient God, and a Healer who can heal all our diseases. We have the Commander-in-Chief to command our blessings. We have God.
So, I ask you again: What do you have?
